As Christian women, we believe that God has numbered our days, ordered our steps, and equipped us to serve His purpose in every season of life—including the aging years.
But when physical changes come—especially ones that affect our sight—they can bring fear, discouragement, and a quiet sense of grief.
That is why February, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month, is not just a call to learn—it is a call to steward our bodies, renew our minds, and walk by faith, not by fear.
"The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them." – Proverbs 20:12 (KJV)
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a progressive eye condition that affects the macula—the small central portion of the retina responsible for sharp, straight-ahead vision.
There are two types:
Dry AMD (most common) – slow, gradual vision loss
Wet AMD (less common) – faster, more severe vision loss due to abnormal blood vessels
It is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50, particularly women.
Our eyes are incredible gifts—designed by God to take in His creation, His Word, and the faces we love.
But just like every part of the body, our eyes need intentional care, especially as we age.
"Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost...?" – 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)
Get regular eye exams (especially over age 50)
Maintain a healthy diet rich in leafy greens, omega-3s, and antioxidants (like lutein and zeaxanthin)
Stop smoking, as it significantly increases AMD risk
Protect your eyes from UV light with sunglasses
Control conditions like high blood pressure and cholesterol
These small actions are not acts of fear—they are acts of faithful stewardship.
The Truth Mindset™ is about aligning your thoughts with God’s Word, especially when fear or discouragement creeps in.
Here are three lies that AMD and other health diagnoses often trigger—and how to replace them with truth:
✅ Truth Declaration™: Though the outer man perishes, the inward woman is renewed daily. I am still being used by God.
“Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16 (KJV)
✅ Truth Declaration™: My purpose is not limited to my senses. God’s call on my life is eternal and unshaken.
“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” – Romans 11:29 (KJV)
✅ Truth Declaration™: The God who sees all also sees me. I am not alone.
“Thou God seest me.” – Genesis 16:13 (KJV)
Yes, AMD affects physical sight—but spiritual vision remains untouched. In fact, difficult health journeys often sharpen our faith.
Let this be a time to draw close to the Lord, to see with eyes of the Spirit, and to renew your confidence that your life still matters.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
Even when earthly sight fades, heavenly vision becomes clearer.
Sister, you are more than a diagnosis.
You are more than your eyes or your age.
You are a daughter of the King, called to live transformed—body, mind, and spirit.
So let us care for our health. Let us educate and act in wisdom. But above all, let us declare truth over our lives and lean into the One who holds our future.
Proverbs 31:25 (KJV) – “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”
With grace and truth,
