Raising Awareness for Transverse Myelitis on June 9, 2025
Every year on June 9, the world observes Transverse Myelitis (TM) Awareness Day — a time to shine a light on a rare neurological condition that affects thousands of individuals and their families. As a Christian woman and life coach, I believe that awareness not only informs, but also inspires compassion, advocacy, and action. Whether you or someone you love has been touched by TM, today is a day to pause, pray, and raise awareness.
Transverse Myelitis is a rare inflammation of the spinal cord that disrupts the way the brain and body communicate. It can result in pain, muscle weakness, sensory issues, and even paralysis. Some recover fully, while others face lifelong disability. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds, often without warning.
Common symptoms include:
Sudden onset of back pain
Weakness in the arms or legs
Abnormal sensations (tingling, numbness)
Bladder or bowel dysfunction
Because it is so rare, many people live undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. Awareness is critical to promoting early diagnosis, research funding, and long-term support.
For those affected by TM, each day is a journey of perseverance, patience, and courage. As believers, we turn to God for strength and hope — even when our bodies do not cooperate. Chronic illness may change the way we live, but it can never separate us from the love and presence of God.
Romans 8:38-39 (KJV) reminds us: "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come... shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
For the Christian woman facing a TM diagnosis — or any chronic condition — remember:
You are not forgotten. God sees your pain and walks with you daily.
You still have purpose. Your story, your strength, and your spirit matter.
You are worthy of support. Seek community, prayer, and professional help when needed.
Share Stories: Post on social media, write a blog, or host a support group discussion.
Wear Teal: The awareness color for TM is teal — wear it with purpose on June 9.
Pray for Healing and Breakthroughs: Ask God to comfort those with TM and guide medical researchers.
Support Research: Donate to organizations like the Siegel Rare Neuroimmune Association (SRNA) or the TM Society.
Show Compassion: If you know someone living with TM, reach out and ask how you can support them.
Heavenly Father, on this TM Awareness Day, we lift up every man, woman, and child affected by this condition. Wrap them in Your love. Bring strength to their bodies, peace to their minds, and healing to their spirits. Surround them with caring friends, wise doctors, and unwavering faith. We believe in Your power and trust in Your plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Though Transverse Myelitis may be rare, those who live with it are real — and they deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated. On this TM Awareness Day 2025, let us be light-bearers, truth-tellers, and hope-givers.
