Palm Sunday: Welcoming The Awesome King With Happy Hearts

spirituality Apr 13, 2025

🌿 As Holy Week begins, our hearts turn toward one of the most beautiful and symbolic moments in Scripture—Palm Sunday. The day Jesus rode into Jerusalem, not on a warhorse, but on a donkey. Not with fanfare, but with fulfillment. Not to conquer kingdoms, but to offer His peace and His presence.

“And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
– Matthew 21:8–9 (KJV)

Palm Sunday invites us to reflect deeply on our own hearts as temples and our lives as roadways for the King of kings. Are we preparing the way for Him to enter every area of our lives? Are we welcoming Jesus with the same “Hosanna!” cry of surrender and praise?

🌸 A Posture of Surrender

The crowd laid down palm branches and garments—a symbol of laying down pride, possessions, and personal agendas. Palm Sunday is not just a celebration; it is a challenge. Jesus is not looking for temporary applause—He is seeking hearts that are fully surrendered.

This is not just about the entry into Jerusalem; it is about His entry into your everyday life.

What am I still holding that He is asking me to lay down?

💛 Palm Branches of Our Hearts

Palm branches were symbols of victory and peace. But peace in Christ comes not from outer control—but inner surrender. As Christian women, we often juggle responsibilities, care for others, and lead in many roles. And yet, in all of it, Jesus whispers:

“Let Me be your peace. Let Me ride in. Let Me reign.”

On this Palm Sunday, invite Him in:

  • Into your relationships

  • Into your work and calling

  • Into your health and habits

  • Into your fears and future

Let Him walk where you walk. Let Him reign where you rule. Lay down every “cloak” of control and let the palms of your heart lift up His name.

🐴 The Humble Donkey – A Lesson in Leadership

Jesus entered not on a stallion but on a donkey—a sign of humility, peace, and prophecy fulfilled. The King came low, because His kingdom is not of this world. For us as women in leadership—whether in ministry, coaching, family, or business—this is our pattern too.

We lead best when we:

  • Lower our pride

  • Lead by example

  • Serve with integrity

  • Honor God's timing

“Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass...”
– Matthew 21:5 (KJV)

The world equates power with noise, control, and attention. But the Kingdom teaches us that true authority comes through meekness, obedience, and Spirit-filled presence.

🙌 Hosanna in the Highest

The word Hosanna means “Save now!” The people were desperate for deliverance—but many sought a military king. Jesus came as the Savior of souls, not soldiers. And sometimes, we too cry “Hosanna!” with expectations that He will fix our circumstance, when He really came to transform our hearts.

He sees beyond your pain, your questions, your timeline. He enters your story not just to save you from what is around you, but to free you from what is within you.

So we cry Hosanna today:

  • Not as a plea for comfort,

  • But as a cry of submission,

  • A song of trust,

  • A declaration of praise.

🌿 A Palm Sunday Prayer

Lord Jesus,
As You rode into Jerusalem, ride into my heart.
Cleanse what is unclean. Calm what is anxious.
Break down my pride and lift up Your presence.
I lay down the palm branches of my plans,
And welcome You as King over every area of my life.
You are worthy. You are holy.
Hosanna in the highest.
In Your name I pray, Amen.

🪞Reflection Questions

  1. What is one “cloak” I need to lay down to let Jesus fully reign?

  2. Where in my life am I crying “Hosanna!”—and what do I truly expect Him to do?

  3. How can I mirror Christ’s humility and leadership this week?

✝️ A Truth Mindset Declaration

I welcome Jesus not only as my Savior but as my King.
I will lay down pride and pick up praise.
My heart is a temple; my life is a roadway.
I cry Hosanna not just for rescue—but for reign.
I walk in surrender, truth, and purpose.
