There is a certain stillness that visits the soul in December, like the quiet hush that falls over a field after the first frost. Everything waits… everything listens. And in that soft pause, the heart remembers again the ancient story that forever changed the world:
“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,
and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
— Luke 2:7 (KJV)
Those words have echoed through centuries—holy, haunting, humbling. There was no room for the King of Glory. The Lord of Heaven, taking on flesh, stepped into a world too crowded, too busy, too unaware to make space for Him.
And here we are… thousands of years later… often living the same story.
December arrives with a swirl of glittering lights, full calendars, bustling stores, and endless responsibilities. Gift exchanges, office parties, family gatherings, school concerts, obligations of every kind—all vying for our attention. The very month meant to magnify Christ often becomes the month that muffles Him.
Zig Ziglar once said, “The greatest source of happiness is the ability to be grateful at all times.” Gratitude slows us down enough to see God’s hand again. Yet in a season of hurry, gratitude often slips quietly through our fingers.
And so we feel it—
That subtle tug of overwhelm.
That pressing weight of expectations.
That whisper of stress that edges the heart.
December becomes crowded with noise… and the soul aches for manger-quiet.
It is not that the season is wrong, but that our hearts forget what it truly holds.
Not out of guilt.
Not out of pressure.
Not out of performance.
But out of love.
Just as Mary carried Christ within her, we who are saved carry the presence of the Lord in our lives. And just as the world around her made no room, so the world around us makes none either. Which means the holy making of room must be intentional.
It must be chosen
…embraced
…protected
…cherished.
Busyness whispers a dangerous deception:
“If you do all the things, then you will feel prepared.”
But preparation without presence leaves the soul empty.
The Truth Mindset™ teaches us to examine every thought and weigh it against Scripture. Busyness often disguises itself as responsibility—but sometimes it becomes a hiding place from the stillness where God is waiting.
A crowded life leaves little space for truth.
A crowded mind leaves little space for peace.
A crowded schedule leaves little space for worship.
And so the Lord, in His gentle mercy, whispers again…
“Make room for Me.”
In Luke’s Gospel, we find a striking contrast. While Bethlehem was bustling—completely unaware of the miracle unfolding—there were shepherds watching over their flock by night. They were quiet, attentive, and available. And because they were still… they heard heaven sing.
“And the angel of the Lord came upon them…
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.”
— Luke 2:9,13
Stillness made space for revelation.
The same is true today. In a hurried world, a quiet heart becomes a sanctuary where God’s voice can be heard.
Modern research tells us that reducing sensory overload—lights, noise, digital input, crowded spaces—restores clarity, reduces stress, and strengthens our ability to focus.
The brain simply functions better when it is not overwhelmed.
What science observes, Scripture declared first.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
Stillness sharpens knowing.
Knowing strengthens trust.
Trust deepens worship.
Your spirit flourishes where your mind breathes freely.
It is not about perfection.
It is not about a flawless home or a flawless calendar.
It is about giving the Lord the one thing He desires most—your heart’s attention.
Here are gentle ways to prepare Him room this December:
Ask the Lord honestly:
“Father, what has taken too much room in me?”
Is it worry?
Fear?
People-pleasing?
Comparison?
Holiday stress?
The pressure to create a perfect Christmas?
Let the Holy Spirit sweep the corners and quiet the clutter. He knows how to restore peace better than we know how to create it.
Take a deep breath and step away from the endless noise—
the scrolling,
the rushing,
the multitasking,
the striving.
Remember this:
Peace is not found in the absence of activity;
peace is found in the nearness of Christ.
Your mind becomes a manger when it pauses to adore Him.
Not a complete decluttering project—
but a sacred corner.
A quiet chair.
A lit candle.
An open Bible.
A place where your heart meets His daily.
Create a space where heaven feels near.
Ask yourself:
“What is eternal?
What is necessary?
What brings glory to God?
What brings peace instead of pressure?”
Release the rest.
Let the Prince of Peace reorder your priorities so that your December reflects your devotion, not your demands.
Sing the hymns slowly.
Read the Scriptures gently.
Pray with a heart that listens.
Worship is not one more thing to do—
it is the very thing that makes all the rest holy.
When the angel appeared, Mary responded with humility:
“Be it unto me according to thy word.”
And then Scripture says,
“Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.”
— Luke 2:19
She pondered.
She treasured.
She held truth close.
Mary made room for Christ not only in her body, but in her thoughts, her emotions, her surrender, her obedience.
Her heart became the first manger.
May ours be the same.
The noise grows quieter.
The fear grows smaller.
The stress loses its grip.
The soul breathes again.
The peace of God settles in like gentle snow.
And most of all—
Christ is magnified.
He becomes not just part of your celebration
…He becomes the center of it.
“Lord, this month belongs to You.
Teach my heart to slow down,
to breathe deeply,
to cherish Your presence above all else.
Sweep away every distraction that crowds You out.
Restore my wonder.
Renew my worship.
Quiet my mind.
Shape my thoughts.
Strengthen my spirit.
Let my home be full of peace,
my heart full of gratitude,
and my life full of Christ.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen.”
Every December, the world pushes women toward perfection.
But the Truth calls us toward presence.
What lie has tried to steal your peace this season?
Name it.
Target it.
Replace it.
Declare Truth over it.
Hold it before the Lord in prayer.
Where the Truth abides, peace reigns.
As you prepare Him room this week, may your heart become a holy manger—
quiet, expectant, filled with wonder—
ready to receive afresh the One who came to save the world.
He still comes quietly.
He still comes gently.
He still comes to those who make room.
