“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
July is Self-Care Awareness Month, and for many Christian women, the idea of “self-care” feels… complicated.
We long for rest, renewal, and balance — but we wrestle with guilt:
“Is self-care selfish?”
“Am I neglecting others if I care for myself?”
“Shouldn’t I just push through for God’s glory?”
But here’s the truth:
Biblical self-care is not selfish; it is faithful stewardship.
It is soul-care — tending to the heart, mind, and body God has entrusted to you, so you can serve from strength, not depletion.
This lie sounds holy, but it leads to:
Burnout and resentment
Disconnection from God’s peace
Loss of joy and purpose
But God says:
Truth Declaration:
“I am invited to rest in Christ, renew my strength, and serve with joy. My value is not in endless doing, but in abiding with Him.”
“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while.” — Mark 6:31 (KJV)
Even Jesus withdrew to quiet places to pray, rest, and be with the Father.
Biblical self-care is:
Time in God’s presence
Caring for your body as His temple
Resting, so you can love and serve with wisdom
Start your day with stillness, Scripture, and prayer.
Let His truth quiet your anxious heart.
Eat nourishing foods, move your body, and get enough sleep — not from vanity, but stewardship.
“Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…” — 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)
Say no to overcommitment.
Create rhythms of Sabbath rest.
Let God set the pace for your life.
