Coaching is not counseling.

 

Counseling looks at the past to help you better understand the present. Counselors are trained to diagnose and look at relationships from a medical model where they diagnose and give advice.  At Life Coach for Ladies, we refer addictions, abuse, mental health issues, and depression to counselors who are trained to deal with those issues.

Marriage coaching focuses specifically on helping a couple better understand one another and move to create agreements about what they will do differently to get different results.  Coaching addresses listening to understand anger, bitterness, forgiveness, resolving conflict, solving problems, dealing with differences, intimacy, and moving forward.  Coaching takes you from where you are to where you want to be.  Coaches do not give advice; they help determine what will work for you.

For growth in a marriage, it must be approached with intentionality.

As a marriage coach, part of my job is to help people get anchored in God’s truth.

One of the ways I can help them is to do a heart check and take assessments to strengthen their relationship.

 

Coaching will look different for couples in different phases of the married life.

  • “Young Marrieds” (1–5 years) might have more concerns about juggling careers with starting families.
  • Mid-life Couples (14–18 years) are at a critical time for marriage because they need a strategy for re-convergence as a couple with children growing up.
  • Empty Nesters are figuring out how to structure their lives now that the children have moved out.

 

No matter the stage of marriage, my job as a coach is to help couples restore their sense of unity and connection so they can grow.
